Childhood obesity is a widespread concern that has long-term health and social implications for children. The imbalance between caloric intake and energy expenditure leads to excess fat storage and can negatively impact quality of life and life expectancy. Behavioral and environmental factors play a significant role in childhood obesity, and promoting healthy food choices and physical activity is crucial (Sebbag, 2022; Karnik & Kanekar, 2012).


The goal of the “Zero PLED” campaign is to address childhood obesity by promoting healthy food choices and physical activity in schools. The campaign aims to educate children, parents, and the wider community about the importance of making healthier lifestyle choices to prevent and combat childhood obesity.

The campaign will primarily focus on school children and adolescents aged 2 to 15. By targeting this age group, we can instill positive habits early on and influence long-term behavior change. The campaign will also extend its reach to parents and the broader community to create a supportive environment for healthy choices.

Stakeholders and Collaboration:

To ensure the success of the campaign, collaboration with various stakeholders is vital. These include parents, the education system, community groups (e.g., youth groups), and the government. The campaign will actively involve the school’s parent-teacher association (PTA) as the driving force in spreading the campaign’s message to all stakeholders, especially parents and children.

Education and Awareness: The PTA will be educated about childhood obesity and its impact on children’s lives. Handouts, visuals, and a catchy jingle (“eat healthily and live long, eat right don’t eat wrong”) will be used to spread the message and influence healthy food choices.

School Lunch Program: The campaign will advocate for at least two healthy food choices, including water, to be offered daily in school lunch programs. Children will also be encouraged to bring a healthy food choice from home.

  • Physical Activity: The campaign will promote at least one hour of daily physical activity as part of the school curriculum. This can include structured activities, playtime, and sports, ensuring children stay active and develop a positive attitude toward exercise.
  • Community Engagement: Engaging community groups and influential members will help drive the campaign’s success. Collaboration with local organizations, businesses, and healthcare providers can provide additional resources and support.


Addressing childhood obesity requires a collaborative effort that involves educating and empowering children, parents, and the wider community. By promoting healthy food choices and regular physical activity in schools, the “Zero PLED” campaign aims to prevent childhood obesity and improve children’s overall well-being. Through stakeholder collaboration and targeted strategies, we can create a healthier future for our children (Sebbag, 2022; Blasingame, n.d.).
