When I took the leadership quiz, four styles emerged as my most developed styles. The first style is Visionary, which is characterized by authoritative leaders who inspire people to follow a vision. This style is useful when a new direction is needed and is very positive. Authoritative leaders are known for their high self-confidence and empathy.

The second style is Affiliate, which prioritizes emotional bonds and harmony among team members. This style is based on the idea that “people come first” and emphasizes empathy, communication skills, and relationship-building. It is particularly useful when a team is experiencing difficulty and needs motivation or to heal rifts. However, this style may not be as effective for goal-oriented tasks.

The third style is Democratic, which emphasizes collaboration and participation in decision-making. Leaders who use this style demonstrate strong communication skills and team leadership. This style is effective for creating ownership of projects and tasks, but it can also lead to slow progress towards goals.

Overall, each leadership style has its own strengths and weaknesses, and effective leaders should be able to adapt their style depending on the situation and needs of their team.

When I took the leadership quiz online to evaluate my leadership style, I found that I have well-developed skills in four leadership styles. The first is the Visionary style, which involves moving people towards a clear vision. This style works well when a new direction is needed and requires high self-confidence and empathy. The second is the Affiliative style, which focuses on building relationships and emotional bonds. This style is useful in times of difficulty but may not be very goal-oriented. The third is the Democratic style, which involves collaboration and team leadership.

This style is good for building consensus but may lead to slow progress. The fourth is the Coaching style, which focuses on developing others and requires high levels of empathy and self-awareness. The quiz also identified the Pace-Setter style as a fairly well-developed leadership style, which expects excellence and self-direction. However, my least developed style is the Coercive style, which demands immediate obedience and does not encourage initiative. In clinical, I have used a combination of these leadership styles, such as using the Visionary style to show classmates new methods and the Coaching style by allowing them to practice on patients after demonstrating the method.


I consistently employ the Affiliative leadership style as I believe that building relationships with my classmates leads to stronger teamwork and harmony. Most of the time, I listen to my team members and empathize with them if they are going through something. After establishing these relationships, I rely on the Democratic style to collaboratively gather everyone’s input before developing a plan of care for patients.

I find that this combination of leadership styles has been effective in both my clinical and work ethics. It is essential to have an open mind and be able to adapt to different leadership styles depending on the situation. For example, one of my classmates was not comfortable with the blood glucose testing method I demonstrated. As a result, I changed my leadership style from Visionary to Coaching to help the classmate build the necessary skills needed to become a nurse.
