COMM 4001 Week 4 The Power of Language:
After the incident, the Care Coordinator confided to the author that she was transgender and had heard similar comments before. This information was significant because the hospital promotes diversity and inclusion, and the author believes that education and intercultural communication could have prevented the situation from occurring in the first place.
As a Program Manager, the author understands the importance of creating an inclusive environment where all individuals are respected, regardless of their gender identity, race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation. The hospital has a duty to ensure that its employees are trained and educated on how to interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
The author is now waiting for the outcome of the incident. It is important to ensure that all employees understand the gravity of their actions and words, and that appropriate measures are taken to prevent similar situations from occurring in the future. The hospital has a responsibility to promote a culture of inclusion, and it is up to everyone to uphold this culture.
